Planning - Poster Designs

Michael Buble's posters and cd covers have all had similarities between them, especially with the style that he uses - suits, coloured titles and black/white backgrounds. He uses an old fashioned, dated style on his work, this brings a comparison of other jazz singers such as Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra, both of their art work includes a photos of themselves with a plain background and bright text. Frank Sinatra is a main competitor of jazz music, and also one of Michael Buble's idols he found his work 'moving and fascinating' which is quite interesting when comparing their album covers. Both of them are always seen in a suit and use black and white contrasts, which enhances the title of the album. From researching both of their albums i am going to take away from it the black and white image selections as i find it fits with the style that i want to convey, as well as the positioning of the image - either found at the sides or centre, showing importance but also living enough space for information that may be needed; such as a title.

Research - Weather

We are planning to film our music video within the next two weeks, so we have to check that the weather is going to be appropriate to match the scenes that we need to film. As our performance aspect of the piece is going to be filmed inside - in 'The Pit' - we do not need to worry about filming outside, but as the venue is in Saffron Walden and our actors as well as me are situated around Dunmow, we must make sure that it is not going to snow or have storms so that we are able to get thebus to Walden. If during the next two weeks it were to snow then we would have to change the date of the filming - depending on how servere the snow would be - as we would not be able to get to our location.

But we have discussed that the narrative when the girl is walking out of the house would suit if the weather were to be dull or raining as this shows Pathetic Fallacy - the emotion matching the weather. 

Our plan was to film the whole of the music video in one day including the narrative, so we thought that we would come to the school and film the performance part in 'The Pit', which times are not discussed yet but we thought around 11am until 2-30pm, which gives us enough time to filmthe song several times trying out different ideas. Then we would be getting the 3-26pm bus back to Dunmow where we would go to the two houses to film the narrative. By doing all of our filming in one day we thought it would be helpful as all of the actors will be in one place at one time for a day, instead of filming over a range of days. The other option we have is to film the Narrative on one day and the performance on another. Also by doing all filming in one day if there is any more footage needed we have the time to ask those actors to come back and film it.

Planning - Script Changes

We looked back over our script and thought about the narrative and timings of the lyrics and found that a lot of it was not going to work how we would have liked, so we have changed some of the narrative to fit better with the music. We also had to think about whether it made sense to just start the narrative in the beginning of the song, from looking at it we found that it did not make as much sense as we would have liked, so we have added narrative before starting the music.

All of these are changes that have been made during the timing process as we found that our narrative did not completely make sense, so we have made it more clear with a range of shots and changed the narrative to flow better. Planning - location ideas

The field is a location close to where I live and we though it would be a good location for our narrative, especially when the girl has to walk away from the boy - long shots!


The other photos are of 'the pit' which is the drama room in school, we thought with some moving of set an setting up staging with a White background this would be a simple but perfect place for the vocalist, especially with the lighting desk which is the final picture.

Planning - Costume

This shot is from Michael Buble's hit 'Cry Me a River' I thought this could show the type of costume that we want our actor to wear for our music video for 'Crazy Love'. Looking at a range of Michael Buble's videos; other than crazy love' he mainly always wears a suit, I think that this makes the video look for professional as well as it conforms with the other videos that he has made, so why change it? Also because we have a narrative in our 'Crazy Love' video with two actors in casual clothing, if we were to use casual clothing on our actor then there would not a complete divide between who is who. Another example of when Buble does this is in his 'Feeling Good' video, which relates to a 'Bond' theme, with the figures of the women and the action and suspicion of what he could be carrying in the case. But compared to his other videos, these are both very fast and dramatic songs, after looking at his other videos such as 'Home' and 'Everything' we see that he is still wearing a suit in both of them, so from this it made us question why chose not to wear a suit in 'Crazy Love' which is the main reason that we are having a suited actor.

Planning - Narrative

Our overall narrative for our piece is about a boy and a girl relationship, seeing if they can manage with being miles apart - as she is going to university. We thought that this would be a particularly good structure for a narrative as it did not completely conform with the lyrics, it only connected with the lyrics by the different emotions that will be shown. We will not be fitting the film word for word with the lyrics, for example, if it were to mention they were on the telephone, we would not show a clip of them on the phone. This gives us more of a range of material and creative ideas to work with, other than sticking to it as thought it were like a script.  


For out narrative we want to use a range of shots, especially when she is telling the boyfriend that she got into the university that she wanted, but we want to capture his initial reaction, when she is hugging him. This would be effect as the audience see the emotion that he is going to experience, but also that he does not want to show her how much it is going to hurt her leaving. This is technically showing the lyrics through his emotions, which we thought would be effective as in a range of music videos they do look at the women's stories more, as the men are seen as the masculine and proud ones, but here if we show his emotions of her leaving it does not conform with the specific music video narratives.
